Animal Farm By George Orwell - 1143 Words

In Animal Farm by George Orwell, when Old Major, a decidedly respected old pig, is telling the animals on the farm about what humans will eventually do to them, he claims â€Å"‘To that horror we all must come †¦ Jones will sell you to the knacker, who will cut your throat and boil you down for the foxhounds. As for the dogs, when they grow old and toothless, Jones ties a brick round their necks and drowns them in the nearest pond.’† (Orwell). His statement emphasizes on the lack of justice and liberty for the animals in the farm. As the animals trust Old Major, they heed his words and act upon it for the better. With liberty, people can stand up for their rights and contradict prejudicial ideologies. For a society to progress, the people must have a say in it. Justice, which consists of equity and tolerance, gives one what they need to be successful, and gives everyone the consequences they deserve. Where there is no justice, people are unfairly treated. While the European colonies were being built in America, the Europeans made a new social and economic system where the color of one s skin could determine whether he or she might live as a free citizen or be enslaved for life(pbs.org). Africans were kidnapped from their homes and set to work for the Europeans, and simply because the Africans had darker skin than Europeans, they were considered inferior. This notion was bigoted and immoral, and later led to issues like segregation, and one race unfairly having more freedom and privileges than another. The roots of American and European racism lie in the slave trade and colonialism, and our society remains affected by the past injustice today. The number of Eco villages, sustainable and intentional communities are rising across the nation as more people are discovering that they possess a strong inclination to live in the same manner as the Amish. This phenomenon is becoming a progressively popular choice for people from all walks of life. Not only are environmentalists and survivalists escaping the city life in efforts to live off the grid, but single families and people who are seeking to explore a simplified lifestyle are also joining the trend. This then becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. When a teacher puts pupils which are for example good at maths in the top set and in other lessons they will be in the top set. This way isn’t really good because the pupils may be bad in some subject but good in one particular needed subjected but yet still stay in the top or low set they are placed in.Streaming means- separating the pupils into different categories/groups/sets/classes Setting means- putting the pupils with the exact abilities together for certain lessons. This will help the pupils achieve high from all the praise and the beliefs that they have in themselves. People are treated differently because of their appearance. Some people cannot afford the cost of uniform, sports kits and other materials needed for school which may mean they have to get sent home- this is a stigma. In Time or in general, students naturally have the hatred for school.They’ll avoid lessons, teachers and even school if they could; some even succeed avoiding school, lessons and teachers- these students are known as ‘anti-school’ Pupils who are ‘anti school’ gain a name by the other pupils and teachers as ‘bad/cool’ and so on, this can raise their self-esteem but unfortuetly makes them unaware that they need school and education to get a good job and make money the positive and legal way. Their behaviou r will affect their streams- they will be put in the bottom set classes due to their negative behaviour towards teachers and the school rules. They will be labelled as failures by teachers which then become a prophecy and self-fulfilling prophecy. Peer Group is very important in this discussion because nowadays, what your friends and other youths label you as means a lot. Teachers may call a student ‘smart’ ‘success’ but outside of school their peer group wouldn’t find them attractive, so they would be labelled as a ‘geek’ ‘nerd’ and so on.. But the anti-school children will be labelled positively. On the other hand no they are not responsible.The teachers will put the pupils in groups/sets due to their behaviour and how good they are in certain subjects Some teachers may put a pupil whom is very good at maths down a set, this is to help the pupil succeed higher and get a higher grade because if the pupil is put in the right set they may think that they are safe and dont need to work harder. Events and pressure out of school factors are responsible for educational underachievers- pupils who copy what they see, for example- they see someone who is financially stabled and has class but yet they didnt go school, this then inspires the pupil into doing the same.They may also see people who sell drugs and make a living from that which then leads them into jail and making illegal money! Family pressuring young kids a swell can lead into under achievement- by the family wanting and needing their child to succeed and get perfect grades can make the child nervous and scared which unfortunately may lead them to go to the wrong way and not live up to the label that the family has made. People are treated differently because of their appearance. Some people cannot afford the cost of uniform, sports kits and other materials needed for school which may mean they have to get sent home- this is also a stigma.Unfortunately certain groups have less money than others and so, are not able to make the most of their educational opportunities, unable to finish their homework or even do it, unable to have full access to educational sites- PCs, books ; and unable to go to educational trips and raise money. Students in lower class and working class will find it incredibly difficult to achieve the same grades as students in high class; the working class and lower class students may feel under-valued. There are quite a lot of innate people out there! Some are just naturally unable to understand the simplest things, some cannot read nor spell. There are also positive and useful innate explanations! Automatically smart, capable to see a page and in less than a minute they are able to tell you what exactly was on the paper, eidetic memory also known as the photogenic memory. In some problems, their sex life takes an impact in their lower achievements in school, especially for the males- always thinking about one girl to another- who their ‘sexing’ tonight and how good their ‘sex’ is. This may be nature or disabilities, but either way this has a very big impact why I personally think out school factors are responsible for educational underachievement.

Two examples are the Knight from the Canterbury Tales and Beowulf from Beowulf. These two fictional characters exhibit both similar and diverse qualities. Their quest, society's opinion, and religious beliefs show both of these qualities. Victory is the quest of any great warrior. The reasons for war between the Knight and Beowulf are to be disputed. The Knight fights in religious wars. This means that he fights for God. On the other hand, Beowulf fights only to kill. Beowulf fights to obtain bragging rights. Both of these men fight for the good of others. Although Beowulf wants bragging rights, he dies to save his people. ?I sold my life for this treasure, and I sold it well. Both are seen as heroes, but the Knight's reputation shows better than that of Beowulf. Beowulf boasts of all his victories and amazing feats. Though ridiculed by many, Beowulf thinks that popularity means everything. He enjoys hearing people talk of his greatness, and he especially likes compliments. In the Canterbury Tales, religion is the main topic of discussion. The characters in the story are satirically described as moral or immoral. The Knight is moral. He believes in God and goes to church in his battle clothes just to be near God. While in church he asks for forgiveness for the slaying that goes on in the wars in which he participates. Beowulf is also moral. He not only believes in God, but also pagan gods. In this age in time it is accepted to believe in God and other gods. Opposed to Beowulf's society, in the Knights age in time the worship of pagan gods was unacceptable and unheard of. They are both heroes because of the things that were acceptable in their time. Beowulf is a hero for slaying horrible beasts. The Knight is a Christian man who spends his life fighting in the name of God. The writer never mentions of Beowulf going to church. It also does not mention of Beowulf asking for forgiveness for the slaying of others. The Knight and Beowulf are two fictional characters that spend most of their time fighting. Intro: I remember when I was in 5th grade in Hayward Intermediate School in Mrs. Helander’s class. I also remember when we watched a video that had a singing sperm, and a singing egg. I thought it was the funniest thing that was taught in school and couldn’t keep myself from cracking up. I was a kid who, at a young age, was taught by my mother about sex because she got pregnant with me at such a young age she worried, and still does worry, about me following in her footsteps. So my mom had no problem when I came home from school that day and told her what I’d seen at school. Not everyone, though, is as cool with it as my mom was.
